Vale Rosita Chronic Care Medical Clinic

The name alone carries significant meaning.  Valle and Rosita are the first names given to two abandoned children who were brought to Hogares Luz y Vida over 30 years ago.  Their stories touched the heart of Sister Valeriana so deeply that she adopted them as her own. For the past 34 years, Valle and Rosita have grown up side by side with over 200 abandoned and orphaned children who, along with their devoted and compassionate caregivers, define the family of Hogares Luz y Vida.

As you know, many of our children have a broad spectrum of special needs and compromising medical conditions which often demand chronic care. Many of them have complex respiratory and heart conditions which dictate immediate emergency attention, and over the years we have encountered significant and often life-threatening challenges in transporting these children to the hospital to provide them with timely, urgent medical treatment they so desperately need.

Several months ago, a property became available near the Hogares Luz y Vida residential home which our foundation was able to purchase. Our Luz y Vida physician, Nathalia Cuervo, who also grew up alongside the children (her parents have been the directors of Luz y Vida since its inception) proposed the construction of a chronic care medical unit. The project proposal was developed and submitted to the Department of Health, and all plans have been approved and permits issued by all government agencies. The plan details a 42-bed, fully staffed facility, inclusive of nursing and medical care services, intensive pediatric care, procedure rooms, and a rehabilitative therapy center. A crowd-funding approach has been developed by Sister Valeriana and her Association of Hogares Luz y Vida directors, which has been distributed to a variety of non-profit organizations to join in raising the necessary funds for this venture.

The Light and Life Foundation launched a Giving Campaign to raise our share of the needed resources to construct this life-saving project and we need your help. All donations are tax deductible, and our Light and Life Foundation policy and promise remains - that 100% of ALL DONATIONS go directly to Hogares Luz y Vida. We are both excited and hopeful for the impact that this chronic care medical facility will provide by increasing the capacity of Hogares Luz y Vida to bestow essential care for more than 200 vulnerable pediatric patients living in our home.

The ongoing mission of the Light and Life Foundation is to provide Light and Life for all of the children of Hogares Luz y Vida - in all aspects of their lives – medical, educational, nutritional, staffing and facility. We invite you to join us in our campaign - to bring Light and Life to our children.
